Yes, I’m finally finishing the Alaska post. 🙂
The next day in Alaska, we went to Juneau. Cool, interesting place. We saw the state capital…
…and Sarah Palin’s former house – the governor’s mansion!
You could just walk right up to it, no fences or anything.
We were waiting on the tram, and up flies this bald eagle, like it was no big deal! He let me get this close to him and didn’t move. It was SO cool…and the locals say they do this all the time!
We rode the tram up to the top of the city. Keep in mind, this was June – and it was raining/sleeting at the top of this hill. NOT cool. But it was a pretty view!
At the top, we got to see another bald eagle. This one was injured, and was in a cage. Still pretty cool to be this close to one though!
Probably my favorite thing we saw in Juneau. This was a gun that Wyatt Earp checked in Juneau and never came back to get. We LOVE the movie Tombstone, so this was extremely interesting to see!
The next day, we were in Ketchikan. It’s a little smaller than Juneau, but it’s a lot like Skagway in that it’s still small-town. We loved it too!
We ate an elk burger there. I’m all about trying new things, but this was gross. It tasted like processed chicken. Now I can say I’ve tried elk, but it was NAS-TAY.
These dogs were just hanging out in the window with sunglasses on. It was hysterical!
We had the BEST seafood there. We said we would try Alaskan crab before we left, and didn’t regret it A BIT. BEST crab legs I’ve ever had.
The last day, we were supposed to go to Victoria, British Columbia, but the wind was too bad to port. 🙁 We were super disappointed. Since we were at dinner, I got a few shots of the city, since that’s the closest we got.
My only souvenir from Victoria…heartbreaking.
So, naturally, I took a bunch of pictures of food that night instead…
And yes, all of this was consumed by the two of us.
And, what would a cruise post be without towel animals!
Overall, best trip EVER! We had such a good time, and actually grew so much closer (and I didn’t think that was possible). Definitely an experience of a lifetime!
