The ultrasound this morning showed that the gestational sac had only grown slightly, and there was no baby. I have what’s called a blighted ovum, which just basically means that, for some reason, the sac developed but the baby never did.
I had a D&C around lunch today. We had the option to wait for the miscarriage to happen naturally, but I really just wanted this whole experience to be over. There was also the chance that I wouldn’t miscarry fully on my own, which would cause a D&C anyway…so we opted just to go on and have it done, so we can start moving on. I’m home recovering now. I’m still a little groggy, but otherwise, I’m physically ok. I’m pretty sure the pain medicine hasn’t worn off yet, so tonight could be rough.
Thank you all for the overwhelming support you’ve shown over the past week. You may not realize it, but you have been the best support system (along with my friends and family) that I could ask for.
