So..let’s revisit this post from a few months ago, shall we? It’s a post where I vowed to lose the last 5 pounds of baby weight by following through with some pretty easy (but effective) steps.
Fast-forward to today. Want to know how much of that weight I lost?
The last few months of the year were rough on my waist line. I, like most everybody else, went a little all-out during the holidays. Add to that the fact that I spent most of November in a coffee shop working on the new book launch (consuming an obscene amount of sugar-filled coffee) and had zero time for exercise during that time, and you have a recipe for an absolute unhealthy disaster.
I also had to be careful with the calorie situation because of breastfeeding. I’m one of those women that has a hard time keeping up with demand if I don’t get enough calories in a day. But, I mentioned in this post that I’ve noticed Jackson weaning a little in the past few weeks. I have much more time on my hands for exercise now, so I’m seeing this as the perfect time to revamp those goals I had back in August!
I’m not really doing much to the goals I had back then. I’m still aiming to exercise at least 3 times a week, watching my calories at every meal of the day, and trying to avoid snacking as much as possible.
Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve already taken off about 5 of the pounds I gained over the past few months! I’m sure most of that is water weight, if that tells you how terrible my diet has been lately. More importantly, I have a ton more energy and I’m noticing clothes starting to fit better. That’s so much more important than the number on the scale!
I’ve got a few favorite supplies to get through this process…
Fitbit Charge HR – I go through my moods with this one, but right now it’s on 24/7 and I am absolutely loving it. If you’ve never had a Fitbit, it’s a step, stair, and (this one) a heart rate tracker. It always makes a massive difference in how active I am each day. I’m also loving that you can compete against your friends through the Fitbit app (through weekend or weekday challenges). It’s a huge motivator not to be the very last one in the group! ?
Fitbit Aria Scale – This goes right along with the Fitbit and makes weighing yourself so easy. I’m just in the habit of stepping on first thing in the morning (and then, honestly, forgetting about it). It calculates weight and body fat percentage and wirelessly sends the information to your Fitbit account. You can look at graphs and older information in your Fitbit app later. I know a lot of people will say to not weigh yourself everyday, but for me, it’s much easier to spot trends in weight loss/gain if I do it daily. This makes it so easy!
RTIC Tumbler – This was a Christmas present that has increased the amount of water I’m drinking each day so much! I didn’t believe the hype behind these until I tried it – it seriously does keep your drinks cold/hot for the longest time, and it’s nice and roomy (so you can always have a huge glass of water next to you). The big reason I didn’t try it until now is a little weird honestly: I have a huge aversion to anything that tastes metallic, and I was worried my drinks would taste like metal. I haven’t had that at all!
PopSugar Fitness – I’ve just recently discovered this Youtube channel…guys, it is FANTASTIC. Most days, I only have the opportunity to exercise during nap time. This channel has awesome workouts of all kinds (that are absolutely free!), sorted by workout time, level, type, etc. The few workouts I’ve done so far have been really challenging (but great for those who need low-impact modifications).
MyFitnessPal – This will forever and ever be my favorite weight loss app. If you’ve been hiding under a rock, this is the biggest collection of nutrition information you will ever find. You can scan barcodes on foods to enter them into your food diary, enter recipes (manually or by just entering the website of the recipe), and log exercise calories. Added bonus: it syncs with the Fitbit app to automatically update my workout calories burned for the day!
VIV Leggings – Ok y’all, I know I talked about a great pair of leggings a few weeks ago, but these are probably my newest find in the post…and they are incredible. Seriously, the most comfortable leggings I’ve ever worn. It also helps that they’re like a fifth of the price of the other leggings I loved. I could live in these things, but it’s nice to have a little extra motivation to work out because my clothes are breathable and comfy!
Instant Pot – This might not initially look like a great health goal item, but it has made a huge difference in the way I cook (in the best way possible). It makes it so much easier to make a healthy, home-cooked meal. As a matter of fact, I’ve been hard at work on a collection of Instant Pot freezer meals…

Nike Revolution 2 Running Shoes – I got the chance to try these through a sponsored campaign a couple of years ago and they are still my go-to shoes. They are perfect for running (which, I’ll admit, I don’t do a lot of because of my terrible knees) or general working out. They’re flexible enough for most any activity you’re doing. Plus, they’re cute! ?

A huge key to meeting my health goals is actually keeping track of food and exercise. If I don’t do this, I’ll completely veer of course (and eventually find myself standing at the pantry eating cookies like it’s my last day on earth).
